Using music to strengthen communities.

The Singing Cafe is a charity initiative run by Without Walls that started as a means of addressing the needs of vulnerable members of the Leicestershire community.

But in the years that have followed since its inception, it has blossomed into something much more inclusive. Whilst our cafes seek to address the effects of loneliness and various mental health conditions such as dementia, they also provide a safe space for absolutely anybody.

Healing, one song at a time.

Harvard Medical School tells us that the human brain and nervous system are hard wired to distinguish music from other noise and to respond to rhythm and repetition, tones and tunes.

Put plainly, the brain responds differently to music.

Additionally, singing helps breathing, speech and posture, and can improve circulation. The health benefits of singing are both physical (an aerobic activity that increases oxygenation in the blood stream and exercises major muscle groups in the upper body) and psychological.

Combine all of this with the positive benefits that we get from social interaction, and you've got an easily accessible, healthy exercise that can be achieved without strain - even sitting down.
